Attorney Miller,
Doesn't the client at some point have the right to tell their story in order for the attorney to prepare a proper defense? That is what I am concerned about...also if an attorney is caught out and out lying and is very vulgar and abusive to clients, I would think that is just cause to dismiss him and pro rate the flat fee for the work done - only because he has behaved unprofessional using cuss words. I have spoken to other attorneys in the office, and outside attorneys and the internal ones say "it is his style and he hates to feel out of control". The outside attorneys say "find another attorney as he is known for inflaming and alienating people". He has also quoted an additional fee to "videotape a meeting and have a stenographer there" and then come the meeting, there was neither and he charged an additional $200! To me that sounds downright unethical. I can't switch attorneys since I don't have additional funds, but I don't believe any human being has the right to disrespect another person to this magnitude when they are there to represent them. I have no confidence in him at this point. The attorney who attended the meeting today (where there was no stenographer or videographer as promised) saved the day as he was so splendid and professional. We got along so well and he totally understood my criticisms and said they have lost many a client because of this attorney I felt was vulgar and abusive. I get such a horrible feeling from him...it sends chills up and down my spine, but I guess I really have no other recourse at this point...the case should be dismissed anyway so I am not concerned but I thought perhaps there might be a place I could lodge a complaint where other clients could read about him before they consider hiring him.
Many thanks for your help! This is a great website, and your time and effort has not gone unnoticed.
