Marriage out of country

We were married in the British Virgin Islands in October of 1999. We separated a year later(November 2000). We now are desiring a divorce here in Connecticut as we haven't lived together for three months. Does the BVI marriage complicate things? We each have gone our separate ways and make no claims upon the other.
